Hallö.
I am German born filmmaker Jan Jürgen. I am writing to you from Vietnam, after documenting the making of a Hollywood classic called, Tropic Thunder.” While the actors and filmmakers try to tell their story of heroism set in the chaos of the Vietnam War, I too will be telling a story. One that has never, until now, been told. A story that I have wanted to tell since I was a child.
Like all of you, I have for many year been fascinated by that most magicalest of all places; "Hollywood." As a boy, I would go to the cinema, and marvel at the people on the silver screen. But even as a boy I remember thinking; "Is there a more forbidding, more sinister side than the glittering facade held up by the powerful arms of the Studio System?”
Of course, this is the question of a child, but that question still follows me today. Imagine my surprise when Damien Cockburn, my former classmate from University, called me on the telephone and asked me to travel to Vietnam and aim my camera at him as he directed his first Hollywood movie. He claimed it will be “the greatest war movie ever” in which many movie stars, including Tugg Speedman, would appear. Could he really be talking about the Tugg Speedman? Could Damien, the awkward theater student I once knew, now be the speak of the town?
This blog, and the documentary I am working on, will address not just these questions, but more. What will follow is a raw, unedited, look behind the fetid flesh curtain known to you and me as simply "Hollywood."

Danke you for taking this journey with me.

 Sincerely,
 J. Jürgen

heymary

Michael Gromek

Can’t wait for Tropic Thunder! Rain of Madness is a great prelude to the movie. A “Hearts of Darkness” parody is just genius. I hope to see more footage from Rain of Madness.

jennifer

Looks fabulous. Can’t wait

There is only one complaint that I have: None….and I am terribly vexed. I want to see this film NOW!!!

Knut Hackenhenholt

Lieber Jan,

Was hast Du wirklich gesehen?

Skydrops

That’s some funny fucking shit.

Hi, Jan.

This looks and sounds like a deeply personal piece of filmmaking.

I must say that I look forward to seeing the finished work.

Francis Ford Coppola must be so proud! Brilliantly devious!

Marino Marinkovic

Unbelievable! The insanity of the whole thing is beyond the scope of the human mind. I’d rather see RAIN OF MADNESS than TROPICAL THUNDER. I will see both, but by god I think RAIN OF MADNESS is genious. God, the lord, almighty, couldn’t have done it smarter. Wooooooooo!!!!!

Matthew

That is so crazy.

Jan Jurgen??? Can that really be you??? I can’t believe you actually went out and done it!

The horror, the horror…

Hello there,

I have a question for the makers of the film that this internettal webular sight is about. But first I wanted to know - how are you? (This isn’t my actual question by the way). I am well, however I did step on a shrew when I was walking in the countryside today, but luckily the shrew seemed to be OK as he squeaked a bit and then scurried off (perhaps in search of shelter/food/other shrews - we may never know). I also saw a man walking around with his top off, eating an ice-cream in one hand (using his mouth to physically eat), and a piece of chicken with the other (again, via mouth). He must have been very hungry. In fact I asked him if he was hungry, but he didn’t reply, and only gave me a sort of ’sneer’, and then started running after me. Luckily I managed to get away (well, the man fell over into the road, and broke his collar bone). Then I came home by train, and made myself a baked potato, and ate 3 eggs, two pieces of bread, a bowl of cereal, another bowl of cereal, a cup of tea, a cup of coffee, a glass of tea, a glass of coffee, some lamb, a leg of turkey and three chocolate biscuits (we call them ‘biscuits’ here in England, however I believe Americans call them ‘American cookie cakes’.

What I want to know is - Is the film meant to be a nice film? Once I went to a film (I think it was called ‘The Parcel of Sheer Danger’ in which a man and a woman were locked inside an abandoned luggage factory for over a month. They survived by eating the leather on the luggage, and using the metal fasteners (we call them ‘zips’ you call them ‘zip codes’) to fashion a large sort of knife with which they used to tunnel out of the building. Unfortunately they tunnelled into a high security prison, and were arrested. They are still there to this day (if this a true story).

Well, I hope the film is nice. All the billy best, Robin Cooper. PS Shall I come and say hello again to you all some time? Do let me know.

I was wondering if there might be any possible chance I can lend my efforts in the making of this extraordinary film as I too have years of thinking about studying the art - experience. I was also wondering where I might be able to get Tugg as he owes me 30 dollars still…

Samantha Scott

Wow! A sequel to ‘Apocalypse Now!’

Oh, wait… or not?

Regardless, the world could always do with another movie about men, guns, and violence. There aren’t enough of those out there.

I’m stoked, to say the least. Kirk L. is a personal fav.

GOOD LUCK!

doug

i must see this in a theater. WHEN & WHERE please?

[...] forward to this more now, looks funny as hell! Apple - Trailers - Rain Of Madness (Itunes) Rain of Madness

What the last guy said, THIS LOOKS AWSOME!!!! YA ROBERT DEE!!!! there better be more than just this

Jeff B

I have a rather large amount of spolied ham that I am looking to unload at reasonable prices. Perhaps it could be used by the catering crew on your next project? Seeing as it is already gone bad it should be ok as long it is used in the next years or so; I mean it is already spoiled so it will not get any worse.

rale

wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is so good!!

it will be broadcasted in bosnia?

Colonel Walter E. Kurtz

I saw…a snail. Crawling on the edge of a craft service table, during the making of the making of thisfilmyouspeak,of. What do they call it when your technical advisor (me) is on a perdiem contract but does not actually receive his per diem on a perdiembasis? We lie. We lie and we have to be merciful. But I do hate them, those….actors. I do hate them.

Can not wait! This “documentary” had better be coming out, before, during or after “TT”.

Chuck

It’s the Coming of Christ in Documentaries.

Johnny Ro

Hate to say it, but this looks better than Tropic Thunder. Why didn’t youse guys make THIS movie instead?

Eber Rogert

Two big thumbs up!

This is awesome!
I can’t wait for Tropic Thunder!

I would love to see this documentary. Good stuff!

David Haft

Genius!

Delanie Macintosh

I don’t know about anyone else, but if Kirk AND Portnoy are in it, then it’s going to SINK THE TITANIC. Tugg Speedman is just lucky to be on board.

Michele

This movie can’t come out soon enough!! I’ve been excited about this movie months ago! The promotion of this movie is flipping hilarious!! I love all the websites!!!

And…ROBERT…DOWNEY…JR…OMG…I…LOVE…HIM!!

“I know who I am. I’m the dude playing the dude disguised as another dude” - That is by far my favorite part!

I can’t wait to see Tropic Thunder!!!!!!!

Ralph

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Fefking genius idea, the whole thing. A round of applause for the hard work! LYB.

I REALLY hope all of this is a DVD Featurette when it gets released.
